UTRECHT – A 25-year-old Utrechter who pressured girls to have sex with him is being prosecuted by the Public Prosecution Service for assault, rape and producing child pornography. Four girls have filed a complaint against him. He allegedly abused three of the girls after dating them through dating sites. Because of abuse by fellow inmates, he has already been transferred twice to another prison. This became clear this morning during a preparatory session in the Utrecht court.

The man was arrested by the police after he pinched a girl in the buttocks at Utrecht Central station in early October. She warned officers that she had been assaulted. The Utrechter was then taken to the police station, where it turned out that two other girls had reported to the police earlier that year that they had had involuntary sex with him.

Videos of minors

Lawyer Bart van Elst does not want to justify what his client has done, but emphasizes that he is a vulnerable boy, who had no idea what he was doing. He invited girls to his home through dating sites. There they watched sex videos and he allegedly touched the girls. He would then have pressured the girls to perform sexual acts on him.

One of the girls was only 15 years old when this happened. She would have visited the Utrechter several times. According to the lawyer, they had made videos of each other. The girl is said to have put a video of the suspect on the internet, after which he put images of her online. Because he was a minor, the Public Prosecution Service sees this as producing and distributing child pornography. According to the lawyer, the girl had said she was 18 and she would have looked older.

The Utrechter would have actually had intercourse with a third girl, but that would not have been voluntary either. The Public Prosecution Service suspects him of raping this 18-year-old girl.

Pedophile of the jail

According to his lawyer, his client is having a very hard time in prison. “He was stupid enough to tell the PI in Nieuwegein what he was suspected of. As a result, fellow inmates saw him as the pedophile of the jail.”

Because of the threatening situation that arose, he was transferred to another prison, but one of his fellow inmates also moved there. According to his lawyer, the Utrechter was threatened and mistreated in the new prison. He was therefore recently transferred again, to a special care ward of yet another prison.

Suspect wants treatment

The suspect was present at the preparatory hearing in the Utrecht court via a video link. He said that he is currently very bad because of what has happened to him over the past two months. “There was a banging on my door at night, so I couldn’t sleep. I was transferred at night. Mentally and physically it hurt me a lot and I have nightmares about it.”

He also said he was very sorry for what he did to the girls. According to him, it had never been the intention “to do things like that with those girls”. He is happy to have talked to a psychologist and would like to be treated. “I think it will really help. I have been treated for street robbery before and have never come into contact with the law since,” he said openly.

Follow-up

The investigation into the suspicions against the Utrecht resident is almost complete. We are still waiting for the report of the psychologist who examined the suspect. The defense attaches great importance to this. “We benefit a lot more from a gentleman who is going to receive guidance than that he gets stuck for a long time.” According to the lawyer, this is also important for victims.

The substantive hearing of the case is scheduled for May 6. Then all suspicions will be discussed in detail with the Utrecht resident. The victims can then exercise their right to speak. The Public Prosecution Service will then issue a sentence.
