UTRECHT – Students in Utrecht collected things for the war victims from Ukraine on Tuesday and Wednesday. This initiative collected a large mountain of items in the Kruyt building on Padualaan.

“We sat together with our board at the beginning of the week and everyone had the feeling that we had to do something,” says Lucie Jeandrain, president of UtrechtInc. She and her fellow students could not sit still after seeing the images in Ukraine. That is why Lucie and four other students decided to place a box in the Kruyt Building where fellow students could donate things. After an appeal on Instagram, so many people came that the small project became a serious undertaking.

Only necessary items

The call stated that only necessary items are needed. Hygienic products, medicines, chargers, batteries. But also pillows, blankets and sleeping bags. It was emphatically emphasized that no clothing will be accepted. That is because there is an abundance. You would think that students are not the most wealthy people, but you don’t even have to go to the store for a bag full, says Julia de Reus, a student at the UU. “I still had a row of toothpaste in the bathroom cabinet and some new towels, they can use them better in Ukraine.”

Transport to Ukraine

On Wednesday evening, cars with the collected items leave for Ukraine. “We are in contact with someone who knows Ukrainians in the Netherlands. They will drive from the Netherlands to their home country. We thought we only needed one car, but there really should be more,” says Lucie while looking at the collected items. looks.
