Schols is director of the Netherlands Institute for Martial Arts and Society (NIVM). The open days are part of a broader project, ‘Fist against discrimination’. Because martial arts brings people together, he believes. “And we want to use that connecting force in this project to bring people into contact with each other. Not just the people who are already members, but the whole neighborhood, the whole city.”
