Utrecht Court of Audit: municipal green policy inadequate

Utrecht Court of Audit municipal green policy inadequate

The amount of public greenery increased by 30 hectares between 2017 and 2023, but the number of households increased even faster by 12,000. The number of square meters of green space per household therefore fell from more than 68 to 65.5. The municipality also wants to improve the quality of greenery, but it is unclear whether this has actually happened in the past seven years. The municipality uses subjective assessments for this purpose, for example by asking residents for an opinion, the Court writes. Biodiversity and climate adaptation are also not taken into account.
