Maarten van Heuven of the Party for the Animals has long opposed the event, which is organized once every five years. He calls it ‘animal-unfriendly’. Earlier it became clear that a license application probably cannot be refused. That is why the Party for the Animals asked the alderman to adjust the subsidy regulation, so that events with animals are never eligible for subsidy again. Alderman Voortman indicated that this is not possible due to national legislation.
