Historian Flip Maarschalkerweerd found the original NSDAP membership card of Prince Bernhard in his private archive, he writes in his new book De Laggers. The Government Information Service has confirmed the existence of the card. Until shortly before his death in 2004, Bernhard maintained that he was not a member. In de Volkskrant, he said: “I can explain by hand on the Bible: I was never a Nazi. I never paid the party membership, I have never had a membership card.”
