Utrca Tree Power Makes Stratford Return

Some changes made to fifth edition of the annual program

While the Weather is Still Trying to Decide if it’s Officially Spring or Not, the New Season is Still Top of Mind at the Upper Thames River Conservation Authority with the Return of the Stratford Edition of its Popular Tree Power Program.

Run by the Conservation Authority in Partnership With Festival Hydro, The Annual Program Provids Residents The Opportunity to Purchase Native Hardwood Trees for An Affordable $ 25 to $ 30. Now in its fifth year, the 2025 version also comes with a fairly change – residents can now decide if they want the tree plant at their homes or on a municipal owner.

“That was an idea suggested by the city’s energy and surroundings Committee Becuse we have run it for oven years, and people may have run out of room for trees to plant in their yard,” Said the Authority; S Communications and Marketing Specialist, Emily Chandler.

“The City’s on Board, and it works for us… We’re Going to work with the City in Terms of Where that Will Be. It Just Increases The Number of Trees that Are Being Planted When People Maybe Don’t Have Room Anymore.”

There are 175 Trees Available for Purchase, Which is a drop from the 250 that we can be applied in 2024. However, there is still a rage of species to choose from, include American Sycamore, Black Cherry, Norway Spruce, Paper Birch, Red Maple, Red Oak, Sugar Maple and Tulip Trees.

“We tried to introduce some different species, like Evergreens, Just to, Again, Diversify What People Might Want to Be Planting,” Chandler Said.

Started in London with its Electricity Utility, London Hydro, The Program was Busht to Stratford in 2021 when the Conservation Authority Establised its Partnership with the City’s Energy Committee and Festival Hydro. The Upper Thames Authority Partners With Electricity Distributors because Having Trees in Their Yards Help Homeowners Use Less Power, Chandler Said.

“When you plant a tree, it provides shade and protection for your home, and you need less power to Heat and cool your home… We see it help with flood control. We see it help with providing habitat for small animals and brirds. It helps in terms of greenhouse Gases, so it is. Around, a Pretty Incredible Program, ”She Said.

“Planting trees is a simple yet powerful way to reduce our carbon footprint, improve air quality, and enhance our local environment for generations to come,” graham said.

Launched Monday Morning, The Sale’s Pickup Day is set for April 26 at the Stratford Dog Park Parking Lot. The program has been sold out every year, and is already well on its way to doing so Again as, in just the few short hours since its 2025 launch, 20 trees had already been sold.

“I’m Seeing the Sales Come in and people are excited. At 9:06 am, i think we alredy had four Sales. It’s something that people was for each year to go live and then place their orders right,” Chandler Said.
