Utah rats fluoride in drinking water • The minister’s wish is criticized • Trump: “Sounds okay”
Utah in the United States becomes the first US state to ban fluoride in drinking water for the public.
In the city of Winter Haven in Florida, a similar ban has been around since the turn of the year when fluoride skeptic Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Became the United States new health minister.
– We have to make sure that what we are talking about is actually true and that we make sure that we do not take away from people something that is actually effective, says local politician Clipon Dollison, who voted against the proposal.
Fluorine in drinking water is banned in Utah, despite criticism from both dentists and national health organizations, reports the news agency AP. The new fluoride ban comes into force on May 7 and will come weeks after fluoride skeptic Robert F. Kennedy Jr. took over as US health minister in President Donald Trump’s government.
Fluorine has long been in US drinking water to improve people’s dental health, but this is not the first time it has been banned at the local level. In the city of Winter Haven, Florida has been banned since the turn of the year, after having had fluoride in the drinking water for 40 years.
– Lower IQ on children, osteoporosis and problems with the brain, if even half of that is true, we do not want this in our water. But if everything is false, we can take it back, says local politician Brad Dantzler, who was involved in the ban, to TV4’s US correspondent Tomas Kvarnkullen, who visited the city.
Critics: “We have to look at the research”
The debate about fluoride in drinking water has flared up in the United States and it is talked about that the Americans’ dental health can be the next political question in the so -called cultural war.
– We have to look at the research, we have to make sure that what we are talking about is actually true and that we make sure that we do not take away from people something that is actually effective, says local politician Clifton Dollison, who voted against the proposal.
Trump’s Health Minister Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Has a national fluoride ban in US drinking water as one of its heart issues. He is claiming that it contributes to a number of illnesses and is also known for being vaccine opponents – as he has on several occasions spread conspiracy theories about vaccines. Among other things, he has argued that there is a connection between vaccine and autism, which has been disproved in several studies.
When President Trump was asked about Kennedy’s view of a fluoride ban, he replied that it sounds “okay”.
– I haven’t talked to him about it yet, but it sounds okay to me. You know, that’s possible, said Donald Trump.
