After the ‘Aqsa Flood’ operation launched by Hamas on October 7, Israel started to attack Gaza. While the crisis in the region was getting worse, the USA decided to send an aircraft carrier to the Eastern Mediterranean. One of those ships, USS Gerald R. Ford, came to the Eastern Mediterranean. Photos of the exercise carried out on the ship were shared with the world.
“SUPPORTS SECURITY AND STABILITY WORLDWIDE”
In the post made on the USS Gerald R. Ford aircraft carrier’s social media account, it was stated that “USS Gerald R. Ford’s mission is to deter aggression and support security and stability around the world.” The shared photos included moments when US sailors and warplanes were exercising.
THE SECOND AIRCRAFT CARRIER WAS ALSO SENT TO THE REGION
The US Department of Defense announced its decision to send the USS Eisenhower aircraft carrier to the region to support USS Gerald R. Ford. US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan said in a statement on October 11 that the aircraft carrier arrived in the region not to intervene against Hamas, but to deter other states. Sullivan: “We did not send the aircraft carrier for Hamas. “We sent the aircraft carrier to send a clear deterrence message to other states or non-state actors who may want to expand this war,” he said.
