To transfer data between two devices, the USB cable (Universal Serial Bus) is the most used wired way. This cable allows content to flow between peripherals and computers or between two computers. Indispensable with many devices, these cables have a universal connector that makes them practical to use.
Most of webcams work with a USB cable, so they are compatible with all computer models and all brands. More commonly known as “Plug & Play technology”, this operating mode makes it possible to connect the webcam without having to restart the computer or without having to install a software operating.
Using the USB Cable
Camcorders, printers, storage elements, keyboards, mice, cameras, all these devices are now designed to work with a USB cable. This technology allows data to be transferred quickly between these devices and a computer. Content can be exchanged in both directions: sending and receiving are made possible.
Before the advent of the USB cable, there were various connection systems. The computers and the devices were difficult to connect due to the multitude of connectors on the market. It was therefore essential to standardize these operations in order to simplify connections and make computers compatible with all the devices that work, such as peripherals.
Thanks to USB cables, it is now possible to buy electronic devices without asking questions. The plug-and-play technology allows them to be connected to computers without having to restart the system. They are ready to go.
USB cable types
Today, there are several types of USB cables. They have evolved and adapted to new technologies. Thus, we can now find on the cable market:
- USB type A: the classic USB cable, this is the most commonly used;
- USB type B: the square format, often used with large devices such as scanners or printers;
- USB mini B: it is smaller than the classic format and generally compatible with telephones mobiles ;
- USB C: these are the new connectors used on the apple devices (telephones and computers). They allow the devices to be charged.
USB webcams
A quality webcam works with a USB cable since this type of connection allows you to broadcast a High Definition image.
If your computer doesn’t have a built-in webcam, buying a USB webcam is the easiest way to fix it. It allows you to participate in videoconferences from any computer that was previously not equipped. The USB cable allows in these circumstances to transmit the image and sound from your webcam to your computer. Data transfer takes place in real time.
