The USA dominated the match initially. The Americans also scored a well-deserved 1-0 goal, through Chaz Lucius, after 15.22. However, the joy was short-lived. One minute and five seconds later, Finland’s big star Joakim Kemell equalized.
In the second period, the USA went up to a 4–1 lead. But Finland reduced to 2–4.
But Finland didn’t get any closer than that and the USA extended the lead in the third period and the match ended 6-2.
Earlier in the evening, Switzerland overcame a 1-3 deficit, to 3-3, against Slovakia in the third period.
It then took a long shootout to separate the teams. 19 penalties had been awarded when Rodwin Dionicio decided the match in favor of Switzerland. A total of five goals were scored in the shootout.
However, the loss did not prevent Slovakia from reaching the quarter-finals. The nation finished third in Group B.
Switzerland finished fourth in the group and thus also advanced to the quarter-finals.
