A US fighter jet has shot down an object over Alaska, the White House said, without specifying what the object’s purpose was in the air.
It was President Joe Biden who ordered the military to shoot down the object, according to John Kirby, a spokesman for the US National Security Council – citing that the object posed a threat to aviation security.
American authorities have not yet clarified what kind of object it is. But according to Kirby, the object must have been much smaller than the giant Chinese hot air balloon that moved over the country last week and was shot down outside the state of South Carolina on Saturday.
– We don’t know who owns it, whether it’s government or company-owned, says Kirby about the object in question.
