Heavy snowfall and blizzards continue across the east coast of the United States. “Winter weather warnings” have been issued to approximately 55 million people in states stretching from Virginia to Maine on the east coast of the country due to the expected rainfall throughout the day.
CLASSIFIED AS A “BUMB CYCLONE”
The National Meteorological Service announced that heavy snowfall, which it classifies as a “bomb cyclone”, will be especially intense in the northeastern states of the country called “New England”.
In parts of Vermont, New Hampshire, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Maine, it was recorded that the storm will reach 115 kilometers per hour in places and the snow can reach one meter.
It has been reported that snow thickness is expected to reach half a meter on the Atlantic coast of New Jersey and east of the Long Island region, while it is expected to be around 25 centimeters in New York City, Delaware, Maryland and Virginia.
‘EMERGENCY’ IN 10 STATES
While nearly 10 states where snowfall is effective, including New York and New Jersey, declared “emergency”, officials called on citizens to “not go into traffic unless they have to”.

In Boston, one of the cities where snowfall had the most impact, a “snow emergency” alert was issued from 9:00 pm last night.
Boston Mayor Michelle Wu said: “This has the potential to be a historic blizzard, very large. This is likely to be a dangerous storm with heavy snowfall and high winds.” made its assessment.
Train services between Boston and Washington DC were stopped due to weather conditions, while more than 4,500 flights were canceled at the country’s busiest airports in the region.
Only essential personnel are allowed to drive in 2 of 3 counties in Delaware, while hundreds of drivers in Virginia are stranded on Interstate 95 due to a snowstorm.
Authorities warned citizens to be ready for possible power cuts in regions where snowfall is effective due to heavy storms. (AA)
