He was killed on Tuesday morning while riding a motorcycle near the Syrian city of Jindayris, and one of his aides was seriously injured, Pentagon spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Dave Eastburn said.
The British-based opposition Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) confirms the death.
The attack comes five months after former ISIS leader Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Qurashi was killed during a US raid. According to the United States, the terrorist leader blew himself up and members of his family to avoid being captured.
