USA, December producer prices below expectations

(Finance) – Disappointing data arrive from US producer prices in December 2023. According to the US Department of Labor (BLS), producer prices fell by 0.1% month on month as in the previous month. Analysts’ expectations were for growth of 0.1%.

On an annual basis, prices recorded an increase of 1%, a value lower than the consensus (+1.3%), compared to +0.8% in the previous month.

The prices of “core” goods and services, i.e. the index stripped of the most volatile components such as the food and energy sectorsshow a zero change on the month (+0% the previous month and +0.2% expected), while on the year they record a +1.8% after the previous +2% (+1.9% expected).
