USA, ADP: 150,000 more employed in June, below expectations

(Finance) – Below expectations the trend of new jobs in the US private sector to June 2024. Private sector employees recorded an increase of 150 thousand jobs, after the 157 thousand of the previous month (revised from a preliminary of 152 thousand). Analysts’ expectations indicated an increase of 163 thousand units.

This is what the report from the Automated Data Processing (ADP)which publishes this monthly labor market report based on aggregate data from the private non-farm sector. This report precedes the official report from the Department of Labor, which will be published next Friday, July 5, 2024.

The greatest growth is in the sector of services (+136 thousand), in particular Leisure/hospitality (+63 thousand) Professional/business services (+25 thousand). In the sector manufacturing jobs decreased by 5 thousand units, while in the construction sector they increased by 27 thousand units.

On a dimensional level, the small companies recorded an increase in employees of 5 thousand, while the companies of average dimensions record an increase of 88 thousand and the industry of big size of 58 thousand.

“There growth of the occupation was solid, but not on a large scale “Were it not for a pickup in hiring in the leisure and hospitality sector, June would have been a bad month,” said Nela Richardson, ADP’s chief economist.
