It was at a speech he gave to the pro-Israel organization J street on Sunday that he highlighted his displeasure with any Israeli plans to expand the settlements.
This took place against the backdrop of Benjamin Netanyahu’s right-wing Likud party agreeing with the far-right Religious Zionism party on heavy posts in the new government.
Party leader Bezalel Smotrich has said that it means a “historic step” towards new settlements.
“The collaboration continues”
The US is following developments in Israel closely, Antony Blinken announced on Sunday.
– We will continue to clearly oppose any action that undermines the possibility of a two-state solution, Blinken said when he participated in J Street, referring to expanded settlements among other things.
At the same time, Blinken is clear that the US’s cooperation with Israel will continue, regardless of which parties have influence.
– We will cooperate with Israel regardless of what their government looks like, just as they have cooperated with the United States regardless of what kind of government we have had, he says in an interview with CBS.
