US Secret Service Director: We Failed Trump’s Security Measures | News in brief

US Secret Service Director We Failed Trumps Security Measures

Director Kimberly Cheatle admitted to the US Congress on Monday that the assassination attempt on Donald Trump was a failure for the Secret Service.

Director of the United States Secret Service Kimberly Cheatle admitted Monday at a congressional hearing that the agency failed Donald Trump’s in security measures at a campaign event where Trump was attempted to be assassinated.

– We failed. As the head of the US Secret Service, I take full responsibility for any security failures, Cheatle says.

Trump was speaking at a campaign event in Butler, Pennsylvania on July 13 when a man who had climbed onto the roof of a building in the area fired several shots at him. One of the bullets grazed Trump’s ear. A bystander who participated in the event was killed in the shooting.

Several Republicans have called for Cheatle to resign, but Cheatle has so far refused to do so. Republicans accuse the Secret Service of not putting enough resources into protecting Trump.

– The level of security measures offered to the former president was increased a lot before the campaign, and it has been increased steadily as the threats developed, says Cheatle.

Monday’s hearing was the first part of the congressional oversight process into the assassination attempt. On Wednesday, the head of the federal police, the FBI Christopher Wray gives its opinion to the House of Representatives. In addition, the Speaker of the House of Representatives Mike Johnson’s is to announce a working group consisting of representatives of both parties, whose task is to act as a liaison body for the examinations of the House of Representatives.
