US requests information from Saab on Brazil’s Gripen purchase

The contract between Saab and the government of Brazil was already signed in 2014 and it is to be concerned with 36 Gripen E/F type fighter aircraft for the country’s air force.

Now Saab North America, an American subsidiary of Saab, has received an order from the US Department of Justice requesting information about the purchase.

– Saab intends to comply with the request to provide information and to cooperate with the US Department of Justice in this matter, the company writes in the press release.

In a written comment to SVT Nyheter, Mattias Rådström, press manager at Saab, writes:

– We have no detailed information about what the case is about other than that it concerns the Gripen deal to Brazil.

The effect on the news of the case was immediate for Saab’s share price, which fell 6.38 percent on Thursday.

The procurement has been investigated previously

According to Saab, both Swedish and Brazilian authorities have previously investigated parts of the procurement. However, all investigations have been concluded without demonstrating that Saab acted incorrectly.

– Due to confidentiality, Saab is not able to communicate anything further regarding this. Our focus is to continue our deliveries to Brazil based on the contract we have, writes Mattias Rådström to SVT Nyheter.
