A little fried chicken hospitality all the way from the southern US is coming to London.

Chick-fil-A, famous for its chicken sandwiches and past controversies, will open its first London restaurant Thursday in the Wonderland and Wharncliffe roads area, its 13th in Canada amid an expansion north of the border.

“Bringing Chick-fil-A to London is such a remarkable opportunity,” said Josh Huesser, owner-operator of the new franchise. “With so many first-time guests, we look forward to sharing our great-tasting food and signature hospitality that Chick-fil-A is known for.”
In celebration of the opening, Chick-fil-A will donate $25,000 to Second Harvest, Canada’s largest food rescue organization. Since 2020, Chick-fil-A has donated more than US$1 million to local hunger-relief organizations through Second Harvest.

“I’ve always been someone who cares about my community and looks for ways to give back to those most in need,” Huesser said.

The London restaurant will also ensure surplus food doesn’t go to waste but is redirected to local shelters, food banks and non-profits to help feed those in need, a statement from the restaurant reads.
Embracing food-related charities is a strategy Chick-fil-A started in 2020 after it faced criticism for its longtime support of anti-LGBTQ organizations in the US such as Focus on the Family and the National Organization for Marriage.
In 2021 he hired a diversity, equity and inclusion executive to counter such concerns.
Chick-fil-A was founded in Atlanta in 1967.
The new restaurant at 3459 Wonderland Rd. will employ about 130 full- and part-time workers.
Chick-fil-A has more than 3,000 restaurants in the US, Canada and Puerto Rico employing more than 190,000 people.
