The US expects a Hungarian yes to Sweden’s NATO application in the near future. The American Foreign Minister Antony Blinken made that announcement on Monday.
– I fully expect that it will happen in the coming weeks when Hungary’s parliament reopens, Blinken said at a press conference in Washington that was also attended by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.
Blinken also said that Sweden will bring “enormous capabilities” to NATO.
Hungary’s parliament reopens on February 26 after the winter break. The opposition has requested that the parliament be called to order.
After Turkey ratified the Swedish NATO application last week, only Hungary remains of the defense alliance’s 31 members.
