It was on February 4 that a balloon was shot down off the coast of South Carolina by an American AIM-9X robot after traveling in American airspace for several days.
According to the US, it was a Chinese surveillance balloon with the purpose of gathering information. From the Chinese side, it is claimed instead that it was a civilian craft that collected data for research purposes.
Now the search effort in the investigation has ended and the last found remains from the suspected spy balloon are to be sent to the FBI for investigation.
The military is also ending the search that was underway after two other incidents involving downed objects. On February 11, an American fighter jet shot down an object over Alaska, and on February 13, another alien object was shot down in the air over Lake Huron on the border between the United States and Canada.
Despite an extensive search effort in the areas, no remains of the unknown objects have been found, according to a statement.
Recent events have led to a deterioration in the already strained relationship between the US and China.
