Minister Jill Dunlop will emphasize the importance of trades, and the opportunities they offer students to develop hands-on skills for future careers, St. Clair Catholic District school board said in a release.

“We are excited to welcome Minister Dunlop to UCC and highlight the exceptional work in our skilled trades programs,” education director Scott Johnson said. “These opportunities allow students to build technical skills, explore career pathways, and connect their learning to meaningful futures.”

These programs also foster awareness of societal and environmental responsibilities, the board said.

The tour will include stops in classrooms specializing in construction and manufacturing technology, hairstyling and aesthetics.

Students will show what they’ve learned through projects in carpentry, welding, hairstyling and spa treatments.

“Skilled trades education is a key pillar in Ontario’s efforts to build a strong and resilient workforce,” Dunlop said. “I look forward to seeing first-hand how these programs are providing students with the hands-on experience and technical skills they need to shape their futures, while contributing to our province’s economy.”

“Our government is dedicated to expanding access to these pathways and ensuring that every student has the opportunity to thrive,” she added.

Local leaders, including Chatham-Kent Mayor Darrin Canniff, and MPP Trevor Jones (PC-Chatham-Kent–Leamington) will also be on hand, reflecting the community’s shared commitment to advancing skilled trades education.

This event serves as a “testament to the strength of UCC’s academic programming, which will prepare every student to become a contributing member of society,” the board added.
