The two leaders will review the “strong cooperation” between the United States and the European Union in supporting Ukraine’s fight against the Russian invasion, the White House said in a statement on Thursday.
Biden and von der Leyen will also “discuss US-EU coordination to combat the climate crisis by investing in clean technologies based on secure supply chains,” according to the statement.
The point of discussion can be understood as a response to the concern that exists within the EU that European companies will lose their competitiveness as a result of the US launching a large climate support package.
EU efforts to reduce dependence on Russian gas, other global security issues “including our joint work to address the challenges posed by the People’s Republic of China”, are further issues to be discussed.
