The 65-year-old German has led the European Commission since 2019 and was nominated by the member states’ heads of state and government for a continuation for another five years.

In a statement, he writes that “her leadership contributes to stability in an uncertain time” and that he looks forward to continued cooperation “for support to Ukraine, for increased competitiveness and for the green transition”.
EU Minister Jessika Roswall describes her as action-oriented and competent and says that the re-election is “a big step towards getting a new commission in place”.
