Not much is known about that period of the Middle Ages, according to the municipality. “The find is very special to us,” says Peter Weterings, municipal archaeologist of the Utrechtse Heuvelrug. “We are not unfamiliar with cemeteries from that period, there is one in Leersum and two are known in Rhenen. We knew there should also be one in Amerongen, but we didn’t know exactly where.”
