Uppsala residents have been swindled out of millions in investment fraud

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

In total, they have lost around five million kroner after being exposed to investment fraud.

– Five people may not sound like much, but we have never heard of so many, and we believe that the number of people in the dark is large, says Sandra Mansour, consumer advisor at Konsument Uppsala.

According to Konsument Uppsala, all cases must be reported to the police. In January last year, and the year before that, they did not receive a single complaint regarding investment fraud.

Lost a million

One of the victims is an elderly man who invested well over a million kroner in an investment scheme.

– When the deposited money was lost, he was called by a person who claimed to be able to help him. The man has given out sensitive information via his computer, which has enabled the fraudsters to take a blank loan. During the last year, he went from being well off to being in debt, says Sandra Mansour.
