UPDATE Woman shot in targeted incident in Simcoe police say

SIMCOE A woman was shot in what police are calling a targeted incident in Simcoe on Saturday morning.

Norfolk County OPP responded to reports of a shooting at a residence on West Street at just before 11 am

Officers arrived to find a woman suffering from a gunshot wound. The woman was transported to hospital for treatment of injuries. Her status was not released in the latest police update.

West St. was blocked off to traffic as the OPP Canine Unit as well as members of the Tactics and Rescue Unit and Emergency Response Team searched for the suspect. OPP Aviation Services also assisted in the search.

Police officers and canine unit could be seen searching residential backyards in the area.

“The suspect is believed to have fled the area in an unknown vehicle,” said West Region OPP Acting Sgt. Ed Sanchuk in a media released on Saturday afternoon.

“Investigators believe that this is not a random but rather a targeted incident that remains under investigation.”

Road blocks were removed by mid-afternoon, but some officers remained in the area.

The Norfolk County Crime Unit and Haldimand/Norfolk Community Street Unit are continuing with the investigation.

Sanchuk said more details will be released on a suspect and vehicle description.
