UPDATE Hold and secure orders lifted at several schools

Hold and secure orders at local schools have been lifted and roads have been re-opened, Brantford police say.

Police, in a social media posting at about 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, said that an individual was safely apprehended and there is no further threat to public safety. The hold and secure orders and roads were closed earlier Wednesday out of an abundance of caution as police searched an area of West Brant.

Police thanked residents for their cooperation as officers worked to resolve the issue safely and quickly.

Police closed Conklin Road between Blackburn and Shellard Lane as they conducted a search of the area for a man. They were concerned about the man’s well-being.

As a precautionary measure, schools in the neighborhood were placed into hold and secure.

The affected schools included Walter Gretzky Elementary School, Edith Monture, Assumption College, St. Basil’s and St. Gabriel.

During a ‘hold and secure’ no one is allowed to enter or leave the affected school.
