Nintendo presented the new DLC for Pokémon Crimson in more detail at Pokémon Presents on August 8th, 2023. MeinMMO tells you why so many Reddit users are now discussing it and why it is being criticized.
Why was the main game criticized? The release of Pokémon Crimson and Crimson on November 18, 2022 brought not only excitement, but also a wave of criticism. The game’s graphics, in particular, met with disapproval from many fans and sparked heated discussions.
Even then, the well-known YouTuber “AlexiBexi” expressed skepticism on X (formerly Twitter): “I’m confused: is the new Pokémon a good example of ‘crappy graphics but awesome gameplay’? Or more of an example of ‘just a shitty money press for fans, as long as it’s Pokemon’?”
We have included the first trailer for the expansion here:
What information is there about the new DLC? Already in the Pokémon Direct in February, the developer company announced that Pokémon Crimson and Crimson would receive an expansion in the form of a DLC. More details were revealed in the latest Pokémon Presents event, which took place on August 08, 2023.
The expansion is titled The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero and will be released in two parts. The first part called The Teal Mask is scheduled for release on September 13, 2023.
The second part, titled The Indigo Disk, is dated Winter 2023. The upcoming expansions promise not only new stories, but also Pokemon not previously present in the main game.
This is what the first reactions from the community look like
Why is the DLC criticized? Pokémon Crimson and Crimson’s graphics remain a dominant theme in the community. The latest trailer for the upcoming DLC sparked a fresh discussion on whether the visual quality in the game has improved.
In forums like Reddit, fans share their observations. User “3lidja” posted images from the trailer there and asked, “Is it me or does the DLC area look a little better than the base game?” Numerous Reddit users expressed their views on the scenes shown.
Not everyone is optimistic, however. A Reddit user expresses skepticism and recalls that the trailers for the main game were also promising, but the reality disappointed. Another user, ahighkid, wrote: “You only have to watch it at 16 fps to know it’s the same”.
brlotor commented, “The Sword/Shield DLC was much prettier and ran better than the base game. I can only assume the same here.” Overall, however, many Reddit users agree that the trailer shows improved graphics.
Whether fans’ visual concerns are ultimately addressed in the new DLC remains to be seen in September when The Turquoise Mask is released. Until then, the Pokémon community remains excited and hopeful for a visual upgrade of the game.
