Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyj said at a press conference on Sunday that up to 100 soldiers a day could be killed in the fighting in the eastern parts of the country.
According to the online newspaper Ukrajinska Pravda, the president says he does not think men of war age should leave the country when “50 to 100 people every day” die in the east.
Zelensky had been asked what he thought of a petition, with so far 25,000 signatures, demanding that Ukrainian men be allowed to leave the country.
– I do not know who the name collection is aimed at. Maybe it’s aimed at me. On the other hand, perhaps it should turn to the parents who had lost their sons, sons who sacrificed their lives to defend a region or a city in our country? And you know, for the most part, they do not even defend the cities where they were born, says Zelenskyj.
Ukrainian men between the ages of 18 and 60 have been ordered to stay at home to defend the country.
