In Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 index was up 2.5 percent by midday and the broader Topix index was up 1.8 percent.
The Hang Seng index in Hong Kong was just before lunch up 2 percent.
Shanghai’s composite index ended morning trade up 0.9 percent and the Shenzhen composite index was up 2 percent at lunchtime.
