Unusual winter storm in California

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

At least 120,000 residents on the US West Coast were without power on Sunday, mainly in the Los Angeles area due to the storm’s high winds.

The important Interstate 5 freeway remained closed in the more mountainous parts of its stretch. Many of the state’s beaches were closed to visitors over the weekend, in part because of the risk of thunderstorms. Flights were cancelled.

The meteorological institute NWS warned of thunderstorms and continued large amounts of rain, but said at the same time that the storm will worsen.

Winter storms this severe are very rare in Southern California. To the north, in the San Francisco area, temperatures near zero were measured. Officially, the minimum temperature was 4 degrees Celsius on Friday, breaking a 132-year-old record.

No injuries or deaths have been reported.
