Large amounts of snow cause traffic problems in several places in Norway. In Bergen, close to 40 centimeters of snow has been measured and more is expected.

In western Norway, a yellow warning for snowfall has been issued over the weekend. During Saturday morning, 39 centimeters of snow was measured in Bergen – 18 centimeters more than the day before.

– There is a lot for Bergen and there is more to come, says Geir Ottar Fagerlid, on-call meteorologist at the Norwegian Meteorological Institute, to Bergenavisen.

The snow is expected to remain for another week – unusual in westernmost Norway, where relatively mild Atlantic winds usually prevail.

– We had a period of snow last year as well, but this year the snow is unusually long-lasting, says Geir Ottar Fagerlid.

During the night of Saturday, traffic accidents were reported in several places in western Norway as a result of slippery road conditions, but no serious injuries have been reported.

Both Bergen and Stavanger airports are experiencing delays on Saturday morning after the snowfall. At the same time, there are major delays in local traffic in Bergen.

Also during Friday, western and central Norway received large amounts of snow, which led to extensive problems in everything from air to ferry traffic. In the Trøndelag area, all bus services were suspended early in the morning but were later able to resume.
