Unusual amount of snow in November: “Get the sled”

Snow has fallen over large parts of northern Sweden. Both in southern Norrland and northern Dalarna, the snow is unusually deep, compared to how it usually looks in November.

– It is also very cold. That there is so much snow is very unusual. Several ski resorts have never opened as early as this year, says Tora Tomasdottir, SVT’s meteorologist.

In Sveg, the snow was measured at 60 centimeters, which is the deepest snow cover the city has had in November in over 113 years, according to SMHI.

– The large amounts of snow came when the cold air in the north clashed with the warm air, says Tora and continues:

– Make sure to put winter tires on the car, get the sled from the garage and take the opportunity to go skiing. Take the opportunity to enjoy a little extra, because you never know how long the snow will remain.

Meteorologist: It will take a while until the rest of Sweden gets snow

In Rissna in Jämtland, the snow depth has broken a November record with a whopping 61 centimeters compared to the previous record of 53 centimeters.

– There has been snow chaos in some places. Especially in Värmland, where there were huge problems. People were stuck in their cars and had no food, water or heat.

On Monday, the temperature dropped for the first time this year below minus 30 degrees in Nikkaluokta in the northern Lapland mountains, reports SMHI.

– But it will take a while until the rest of Sweden gets snow, except possibly a little wet snow now and then, says Tora Tomasdottir.
