Unsold flea market trinkets go to the thrift store after King’s Day: ‘People want to get rid of their junk’

From a lawn mower to bags full of clothes

Recycling activity throughout the province

It’s not just the thrift store in Nieuwegein that is experiencing post-King’s Day crowds today. Before the doors of De Waarde in Utrecht opened this morning, there were already items at the collection point. “In the next hour, about five more people came by with bags, boxes and, above all, a lot of books,” explains an employee.

Recycling center Amersfoort was already open yesterday and saw a lot of activity at the time of delivery. “People want to get rid of their junk. At the moment it is mainly textiles: furniture and other household goods.” The biggest crowds are still expected in the Veenendaal cycle shop Restore. “It’s the May holiday, so I think most of them will come later together, with the kids. The whole week actually.”
