A woman in her 30s and a five-year-old child are being treated with serious injuries in hospital after the attack.
After the crime, rumors spread about the suspected perpetrator, who was arrested at the scene, and violent protests broke out during the evening.
Police car and buses on fire
At least one police car has been set on fire and police in riot gear have been called to the scene to deal with the angry protesters, reports Sky News. Two buses are also said to have caught fire in connection with the protests.
One of the channel’s correspondents also states that people have looted shops.
Police chief Drew Harris calls for calm and blames the violence on “hooliganism”.
– We have a completely crazy hooligan faction that is driven by far-right ideology, and that also engages in serious violence, he says according to the channel.
He also states that misinformation and rumors connected to the attack are being spread.
No motive has been made public, but the police have ruled out that it is a terrorist act.
