Rwanda’s ambassador is expelled from Congo-Kinshasa as Rwanda is accused of supporting the rebel group M23. However, Rwanda denies that the country supports the rebels, TT reports.
M23 captured the town of Kiwanja in eastern Congo on Saturday. This means that the rebels are effectively cutting communications between Goma, North Kivu’s capital, and the upper half of the province.
In response, UN peacekeeping missions have increased their level of readiness and support for the army.
M23 resumed fighting in late 2021 after being dormant for several years.
