US President Joe Biden has cut short his weekend trip to his home state of Delaware to consult with the National Security Council in Washington, due to the increased tension between Iran and Israel, the White House announced.
US intelligence has warned that Iranian retaliation for an airstrike in Syria’s Damascus that killed several senior Iranian military personnel last week is imminent.
During Saturday, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammad Shia al-Sudani also went from Baghdad to the United States, for a meeting with the American president regarding the situation in the region.
“The meeting with President Biden will discuss regional issues and ongoing escalations, focusing on the joint effort to promote calm and prevent the conflict from expanding, which could affect global stability,” al-Sudani’s office wrote in a statement.
