UNRAE: double-digit growth in February for the used car market (+13.1%)

(Finance) – Even the February confirms double-digit growth for the used car market (with data awaiting consolidation): +13.1% in the month to 464,210 property transfers compared to 410,449 in 2023, but still 1.9% lower than 2019. Net transfers increased by 13.4% and mini-transfers by 12.7%. In the first two months, growth stood at +14.6% with 910,250 total passages compared to 794,176 in January-February 2023. UNRAE, National Union of Foreign Vehicle Representatives, explains in a note.

In February the diesel confirms its first position among the preferred engines on the used market, with 45.4% (-2.1%), to 45.6% in the two-month period; in second place was the petrol engine at 39.1% (-1% and 39.3% in the 2 months). Hybrids occupy third position with 7.0% (6.7% cumulative), followed by LPG (at 4.9%, same share in the first two months). Methane is positioned at 2.1% (2.2% in January-February), while the net transfers of BEV and plug-in cars cover respectively 0.6% and 0.8% of the total both in the month and in the cumulative.

Basically exchanges between private individuals/companies are stable at a high level which in February represented 56.8% of all changes of ownership (57.4% in the two-month period). Those from operator to end customer were also stable, at 39.0% in the month (38.4% in the cumulative). THEn growth in exchanges from Km0 (3.5%)while those coming from rentals dropped (0.8% overall in the month and two months).
