The nineteenth round of the Formula 1 world championship takes place this weekend in the United States.
The Formula 1 world championship has resumed its rights after a four-week break. And it is in the United States, near Austin, that the final sprint of the 2024 season has been launched. There are six races left before the verdict on the season falls and there is suspense at every level. For the title of world drivers’ champion, with a standoff between Max Verstappen and Lando Norris so far to the advantage of the Dutchman, three-time title holder.
But also among the manufacturers with McLaren which took control for the first time in September, at the expense of Red Bull which has been marking time for several Grands Prix. Ferrari, on the third step of the podium, is not definitively out.
While there will be no more races in Europe this year, the next four, including this weekend, will take place on the American continent. This means later times on Sundays for French viewers. The start of the United States Grand Prix on October 20 will be at 9 p.m. Paris time. 11:10 – Update on the world championship rankings after the sprint race
By winning the sprint race on Saturday, Max Verstappen increased his lead in the world championship. With 339 points, the Dutchman now has a 54-point lead over Lando Norris, 3rd in this sprint race and 2nd in the championship with 285 points. In the constructors’ standings, Red Bull grabs 2 points and is 39 lengths behind McLaren.
10:49 – Norris will start on pole ahead of Verstappen
At the end of a truncated Q3 following the crash of Russell then 6th, Lando Norris kept the best time achieved at the start of the session and obtained pole position for this United States GP which will start this evening at 9 p.m. The Briton will be ahead of championship rival Max Verstappen, winner of the sprint race earlier in the day, on the grid. Carlos Sainz is 3rd ahead of his Ferrari teammate, Charles Leclerc. Oscar Piastri (McLaren) will start 5th. Note the 7th place of Pierre Gasly and the 19th position of Lewis Hamilton.
