With Season 5, Blizzard is tweaking all of the uniques in Diablo 4 to make them stronger again. Experts are praising the changes and say that there is some “really crazy stuff” in there.
Season 5 in Diablo 4 starts on August 6th and brings new uniques and legendaries into the game. The developers are reworking the uniques that already exist in the game and Uber Uniques will become Mythic Uniques. In the last YouTube livestream on August 1st, the developers of Diablo 4 explained that almost every unique will receive an update in Season 5. And the updates are “pretty dramatic.”
Uniques are meant to break the rules and allow for effects that aren’t otherwise possible. The developers want to highlight the theme and fantasy of the uniques through their stats and effects to create something special.
What do the developers want to change? According to Lead Class Designer Adam Z. Jackson, the revision of the uniques takes place in various places:
Uniques still cannot be improved using the “hardening” crafting system, but they can already have hardening affixes. This means that they still have fixed affixes, but these can also be ones that are otherwise available through hardening recipes. This should allow uniques to keep up with strong hardened items. Previously, there was criticism that uniques were “useless” and other items were much better.
Revision enables “crazy builds”
What do experts say about the build options? Content creator Rhykker says in his YouTube video that he loves these changes to the uniques. His biggest criticism after release was that items and especially affixes weren’t exciting enough. “Boring, confusing affixes” were also a point of criticism from the community.
The “hardening” that came into play with Season 4 helps enormously here, says Rhykker – and now they’re adding exactly these cool stats to uniques. The content creator thinks that this creates interesting build options. For him, this is the “season of uniques.”
Rhykker further says:
I get really excited when I look at these uniques and think about the possibilities for builds. They’re fun, they’re flavorful, and they really get me excited. I’m really glad they didn’t just take the easy route and let us harden uniques, but instead turned each unique into something cool and exciting. Now we’ll have to see how they all fit into the meta.
Diablo expert wudijo notes in his YouTube video that the updates to the uniques include “pretty crazy stuff.” A few mythic uniques in particular are “pretty broken” (in the sense of powerful) after the changes. He thinks the updates to the uniques are great. He says there will be very powerful builds, but every class will have a few strong builds.
The Harlequin Crown and Tyrael’s Might in particular are “crazy,” says wudijo. He believes that the changes to the “Tyrael’s Might” chest armor will particularly benefit barbarians and huntresses. In a post on X, wudijo writes that the chest armor is the winner of the revisions in Season 5.
In a livestream on Twitch, Diablo expert Raxxanterax said that the updates to the uniques change how passive skills and class mechanics interact with each other. It could be fun to create “crazy builds” with them. One Mythic Unique in particular has been really well received by the community with its changes. It was already one of the most powerful items in the game. You can read more about it here: Season 5 of Diablo 4 changes all uniques, the strongest becomes even stronger
