The Jules Vernes film was particularly impressive visually, with its mix of live action and different animation styles. Director Zeman and his team used surrealistic backdrops to bring the novels’ illustrations to life. At the same time, the actors were guided in such a way that their behavior completely adapted to the fantastically stylized environment.
What is The Invention of Ruin about?
A French scientist develops a futuristic weapon and is promptly kidnapped by pirates led by Artegas, who brings the professor to his side with false promises. However, Artegas wants to use the weapon to carry out his raids around the world without restrictions. The professor’s assistant recognizes the sinister plan and informs the international authorities.
