Unique sci fi film with pirates and submarines released in limited

Hollywood has poured millions into its adaptations of Jules Verne’s sci-fi books, but none of them see it so good and distinctive from like The Invention of Destruction by director Karel Zeman. The film from the former Czechoslovakia tells a story about brilliant scientists, evil pirates and the possible end of the world with the help of beautiful animations.

The result is a unique steampunk experience. On February 10th, the science fiction classic will appear in two media books, which have been limited to a few hundred copies.

The sci-fi classic combines real film and animation

The basic idea of The Invention of Ruin is reminiscent (of all things) of Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery. In the 1958 cult film, too, a raw material is invented that could solve all energy problems – and endanger the world. The scientist Professor Roch is behind it and is therefore kidnapped by the pirate Artigas on an island. The buccaneer wants to gain control over it.

For the look of The Invention of Ruin, Karel Zeman let himself be hired by Victorian illustrations of Jules Verne’s books to inspire. Known as the “Czech Melìes,” the filmmaker combined animation and live-action footage with lovingly designed backdrops, allowing his actors to move through their fantastical environments.

If you love old-school sci-fi adventure, you’ll love this irresistible journey through the world of Jules Verne.
