Sci-fi fans have been waiting for a sequel to the one-off sci-fi hit District 9 for 13 years. The continuation, once called District 10, is yet to come. The creator even explains the delay. And speaks of a big change.
There will be a big change in the sci-fi sequel to District 9
Blomkamp told IGN:
The script is still in the works. It looks good. There’s a theme in American history which felt like a great path for a District 9 sequel. But it took 10 years to figure out why we should do this movie instead of a straight part 2.
After all, the jump from the District 9 location South Africa to America is no small step. The first was based on aliens stranded in Johannesburg Issues such as isolation, racism and violence negotiated. The new setting is ideal for such a discussion. It is not yet known which story Blomkamp wants to tell.
When is the sequel to the sci-fi highlight District 9 coming?
Should the director actually want to bring the District 9 sequel to theaters as his next film, fans might before the end of 2023 count on the sci-fi adventure. The date depends on many factors, including the completion of the script.
