The most expensive Saab that has ever been sold is a red 900 Turbo Cabriolet from 1987, which was sold in the United States in 2022 for around SEK 1.5 million. At the time, the car had traveled less than 40 miles.
Now a unique Saab Sonett II has the potential to become the most expensive Saab ever sold here in Sweden.
Unique Saab Sonett II from 1966
The car in question is number 19 of the 28 pre-series Sonett II cars built in 1966, and is for sale at the car dealer Kaiser Classic.

The car was shipped over to the United States, where it acted as an advertising pillar for the small unknown car manufacturer from Sweden.
– There they toured various exhibitions together with Erik “Carlsson on the roof” Carlsson. Among other things, it was in the big car exhibition in New York, says Christian Jacobsson at the Kaiser Classic to Carup.
A sports car from Saab
Sonett II was Saab’s attempt to really break into the sports car market, after the open predecessor Sonett I was built in only six copies.
To create its new sports car, Saab assembled the mechanics from its more everyday passenger cars in a low and streamlined fiberglass body.

Under the hood at the start was a straight three-cylinder two-stroke engine of 841 cc and 60 horsepower, but later the model was also available with a four-stroke V4 engine from Ford of 1.5 liters and 65 horsepower. The V4 cars are recognizable by a raised bump on the bonnet.
The successor Sonett III was only available with a V4 engine.

Could be the most expensive Saab in Sweden
After its career as a demo car, the car ended up in a car collection in the USA, and was eventually found in poor condition by the current owner who brought it home to Sweden.
– It has since been completely renovated and is now in a very good condition, it is truly a historic car and it is very fun to have it here with us, says Christian Jacobsson to Carup.
Although the car has only been out for sale for a couple of weeks, Kaiser Classic states that it is already receiving visits from Saab fans who want to see the car.
The price tag is SEK 995,000, which means that the car has the potential to become the most expensive Saab ever sold in Sweden.
