Unique lawsuit against disputed electric scooter rental company in Gävle

The municipality of Gävle asked Ryde to remove the vehicles but was not heard. They also exhibited their bikes last year, without permission, the municipality has said.

The prosecutor claims that the company lacked the necessary permits and demands that the company Ryde must pay SEK 50,000 in corporate fines for violations of the Public Order Act and has been targeted on two occasions but believes that it constitutes parts of a larger scope; on September 15-16, 2021 when at least ten e-scooters were lined up on Drottninggatan and on September 22 of the same year when at least ten e-scooters were at a roundabout in Andersberg.

Hear in the clip above why Christer Sammens believes that Ryde violated the public order law.

Denies crime

SVT has sought Ryde for an interview without success, instead they reply via email that Ryde denies crimes and that no permit is required for their activities.

“We think it’s a shame that the municipality and the public have chosen a line that goes against a service that was very much appreciated by the residents of Gävle,” writes the company.

The trial is pending in Gävle district court, but a date has not been set.
