The decision was made by the ongoing congress in Norrköping late on Saturday evening. In the section on energy policy, it is now said that “All fossil-free energy types are needed to cope with climate change”.
According to the union leadership and president Lisa Nåbo, who is expected to be re-elected at the congress, it should be read as SSU saying yes to new nuclear power in the short term – a change of line.
But the congress emphasizes that the choice of new electricity production must be guided by climate benefit, amount that can be produced and low price. In the longer term, the goal must be renewable, cheap and safe electricity production. The need for more and new electricity production is great, according to SSU.
