Good surprise for Emmanuel Macron and Renaissance! The results show the political family of the President of the Republic as the second force in the National Assembly. The predicted debacle did not take place but many seats were still lost compared to 2022.
Renaissance and Emmanuel Macron save the day. The presidential party and its various allies (MoDem, Horizons, etc.) appear to be the second political force in the National Assembly on the evening of 2nd round of legislative elections. If it loses the fragile relative majority born of the 2022 legislative elections, the centrist party is far from admitting defeat and will be able to weigh in on future debates in the National Assembly. The alliance grouped under the banner “Together” is credited with 168 seats by aggregating its allies.
For Gabriel Attal, leader of Renaissance during these early legislative elections, it is a lesser evil, although Macronie loses a hundred members at the Palais Bourbon. Above all, its figures and leader have rather succeeded in their bet. We will note all the same the defeats of two members of the government, Stéphane Guérini and Sarah El-Hairy, both beaten Sunday during the second round. Attal, Séjourné, Darmanin, Bergé are re-elected, like the former Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne while Olivier Véran lost in Isère.
The coming weeks promise to be ones of intense negotiations. Will Macronie manage to unite around it to create a new majority of circumstances and govern against the New Popular Front, the country’s leading political force in terms of number of seats (14 more deputies)?
