unemployment rate at lowest since 1969

The unemployment rate for the month of January 2023 is down again in the United States. It fell 0.1 point to 3.4% last month. These figures thwart the forecasts, displaying iron health despite the announcements of layoffs.

The unemployment rate continued to fall in the United States, reaching 3.4% in January, compared with 3.5% in December and 3.6% in November. For several months over the past year, the unemployment rate had already returned to pre-pandemic levels, but January’s result is the lowest rate since 1969, 50 years ago.

Fine fix

The indicators are also looking good for job creation. According to the Labor Department, 517,000 jobs were created in January 2023, double the creations in December. Hospitality, leisure, business services and healthcare were the sectors that pulled the job market the most.
